Cara got a short taste of freedom today. The Respiratory Therapists wanted to see how she did without the CPAP machine on, so for a short period of time they took it off and monitored her breathing. She did very well breathing on her own, but unfortunately she does tire. They want her to continue on the CPAP to give her a break. She will be on and off the CPAP as she gets stronger. We are told that it may take several days to see progress. It made our day to see her content and wide awake without the CPAP. The picture below is from this afternoon where she spent over 45 minutes looking around and making faces at us. J Her poor little nose has been stretched and squished from the ventilator and CPAP.
We are encouraged still by all of the answered prayers, and also all the love and support shown by so many.
"Look to the LORD and his strength; seek his face always."
1 Chronicles 16:11
Thanks so much for the beautiful pictures. She is beautiful and we are so happy she is getting stronger every day. In a few weeks I will be holding her, can't wait :)
ReplyDeleteShe is so cute. We can't wait to meet her in person! Wishing you the LORD's continued strength. Lots of love!
ReplyDeleteAlex and Julianne,
ReplyDeleteWe just heard from Mom (Van Dyken) about Cara and our hearts are with you in this time. We really appreciate the updates and the pictures (she looks So beautiful) and your courage and faith in the Lord. You are in our prayers. We are not sure what your schedule is like but we live in the Toronto area and would love to have you over one evening if you are able to get away. We would offer a place to stay but don't have the room. Otherwise we could come to the hospital and maybe take you out for a dinner. Whatever would work better for you. Please let us know if there is anything we can do as we are close by. Maybe you can e-mail me and then we can exchange phone numbers (michmele@hotmail.com)
